Primary Objective of PositionThe Mounds View Police Department seeks a
LATERAL School Resource Officer (SRO) to join our agency of professionals in their commitment to protect and serve the community. While school is in session you will primarily work in Mounds View’s elementary and middle schools, ensuring student and teacher safety, and fostering positive relationships. The SRO works Monday – Friday’s, no weekends or holidays during the school year. The SRO receives an additional 2.75% of wages while designated and serving in this capacity. In summer months, this position will return to the streets, and in the fall, return to the school.
This is a long-term SRO position.
Nature of Work:
This position is responsible during a specified period of time, for the maintenance of order, enforcement of laws, and protection of life and property. This position also assists in the investigation of criminal offenses, accidents, and other police-related problems.

Internally – All staff, City Council
Externally – General public, County staff
Supervision:
None.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Work Functions:

Performs community patrol: Operates a patrol vehicle; observes and enforces violations of parking and traffic laws and city code violations; responds to reports of suspicious activities or persons and disturbances of law and order; responds to radio dispatches; conducts security checks on businesses, schools and other buildings; and answers calls, questions and complaints.

Enforces criminal and traffic laws; issues citations for traffic violations; assists motorists in distress.

Arrests offenders, utilizing reasonable force if necessary; and transports suspects to the jail.

Provides first response medical treatment at injury scenes.

Investigates crime and accident scenes: gathers, processes and stores evidence; interviews suspects; takes victim and witness statements.

Provides testimony in court.

Serves as mental health first responder, mediator, and ensures continuity of care through the mental health system.

Ensures vehicle and equipment are in proper working order.

Assists in and attends ongoing training in procedures, tactics, weapons, computer systems, and related subjects.

Coordinates with other shifts and law enforcement agencies.

Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports.
