Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive ophthalmic patient examinations, including measuring vital signs and collecting medical histories to support accurate diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry and tonometry devices to assist in detailed eye assessments.
- Assist with eye refraction procedures, ensuring precise measurements for corrective lenses.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and clinical confidentiality policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems efficiently, documenting all patient interactions, test results, and procedural notes accurately.
- Support intake processes by collecting patient information, verifying insurance details, and explaining procedures clearly to enhance patient experience.
- Provide direct patient care by offering compassionate support during examinations, educating patients about their eye health, and addressing questions related to ophthalmic treatments or optical needs.
- Operate medical equipment safely and effectively while maintaining calibration and cleanliness standards in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Assist with pediatric ophthalmic examinations when needed, adapting communication techniques for younger patients.
- Contribute to retail optical services by assisting with eye refraction sales, understanding optical products, and applying retail math for transactions when applicable.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or ophthalmology clinic is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology related to the eye, and anatomy fundamentals relevant to ophthalmic care.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR management systems and ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry and tonometers.
- Ability to perform ophthalmic patient examinations accurately while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Excellent patient service skills with a focus on direct patient care, empathy, and clear communication.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Experience with medical coding related to ophthalmology procedures is a plus.
- Retail optical experience or understanding of eye refraction can be advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment while managing multiple responsibilities efficiently.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
