Primary Purpose:
Perform mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Work on projects
as assigned, following established procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Texas CDL (A or B) with passenger endorsement (P) and school bus endorsements (S) ASE
Certified
- Ability to read, write and understands English Certified State Vehicle Inspector
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervision
- Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
- Ability to pass required bus driver safety training Acceptable driving record
- Ability to operate school bus
Requirements Unique to Position:

Responsibilities of Position:
1. Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.
2. Perform minor mechanical repairs.
3. Help lead mechanic complete major repairs.
4. Do welding and minor body repair.
5. Service vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule. Rotate tires, change oil and
filters, lubricate vehicle parts, inspect and replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps, and maintain all fluid
levels.
6. Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance.
7. Perform welding and minor bodywork to keep vehicles operating.
8. Perform routine vehicle maintenance and preventive care.
9. Establish preventive maintenance and care schedules.
10. Discuss mechanical problems with shop foreman and help them solve repair problems.
11. Perform state safety inspections for all district vehicles.
12. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures
13. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing,
etc.
14. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to
supervisor immediately
15. Follow time card procedures for accurately reporting time work.
16. Operate mobile radio and communicate with transportation center and buses according to
procedures. Avoid needless remarks.
17. Keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
18. Recommend replacement of existing equipment.
19. Assist in conducting annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.
20. Assist in the upkeep and appearance of shop and parking lot area.
21. Work irregular hours as needed.
22. Assist in all transportation monthly meetings.
23. Read and be familiar with the Transportation Department Employee Handbook.
24. Perform all other projects and duties as assigned by Transportation Director or Director’s
Designee.
25. Regular and reliable prompt in person attendance is required.

Working Conditions: Physical
Operate any FISD school bus and associated equipment, Strength to lift up to 50 pounds
Daily bending, stooping, and climbing Daily reaching above shoulders. Daily driving vehicle
Daily climbing of stairs and ramps. Daily walking, standing and sitting. Daily sweeping Mopping as needed.
Daily pulling and pushing, perform duties in inclement weather Demonstrate ability to exit rear door of
school bus.

Pay: $20.40 - $35.70 per hour
