Job Summary:
The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals for children and adolescents residing at Abol Cottage Care. This position ensures food is prepared safely, meets dietary requirements, and complies with all health, sanitation, and food service regulations. The Cook works collaboratively with treatment staff to support the health and well-being of residents in a safe and caring environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks according to approved menus. Dinner meals will be prepped for treatment staff to distribute at dinner time.
- Ensure meals meet nutritional standards and accommodate physician-ordered diets, food allergies, and special dietary needs.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, dining areas, equipment, and food storage areas.
- Follow all food safety guidelines, including proper food handling, storage, and temperature monitoring.
- Receive, inspect, and properly store food and supplies as required by Texas licensing standards.
- Monitor food inventory and notify supervisors when supplies need replenishing.
- Maintain accurate records of food inventory as required. Provide and/or shop for ingredients needed to prepare all meals and snacks.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Demonstrate respect, professionalism, and confidentiality when interacting with residents and staff.
- Participate in emergency procedures and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience as a cook in a residential facility, school, healthcare, childcare, or institutional setting preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to prepare meals for a maximum of 9 residents while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Certifications
- Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred (may be required after hire).
- Successful completion of criminal background check and any other required pre-employment screenings.
Pay: $16.00 per hour
