Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Elementary School Principal, the 6th Grade Long-Term Substitute will work with students to achieve excellence in 6th grade mathematics for approximately 12 weeks while covering a maternity leave. The position will start around the beginning of October and conclude approximately 12 weeks later, with exact start and end dates to be confirmed closer to the leave.
Qualifications Required:
A. Minimum of BS/BA degree in Elementary Education (emphasis in Mathematics preferred)
B. Possess or be eligible for a valid Michigan teaching certificate
C. Highly Qualified by NCLB Standards
D. Able to assess and document student progress
E. Professional in personal conduct and actions
F. Strong organizational, classroom management, collaboration, and communication skills
G. Demonstrated competence in the use of technology
Desired Characteristics:
A. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
B. Excellent organizational and time management abilities
D. Knowledge of Google platforms
E. Experience working with elementary students
F. Experience using technology as an instructional tool in the classroom
G. Ability to work with various personality types
H. Familiarity and/or experience with Professional Learning Communities
I. Ability to foster a learning environment prioritizing collaboration, critical thinking, and communication
Responsibilities:
A. Encourages student behavior that promotes character development
B. Creates and maintains effective environments for student learning

E. Collaborates with staff to plan, integrate, and enhance mathematics standards in the classroom
H. Uses pre-assessments to plan differentiated instruction
I. Delivers rigorous lesson plans that are driven by student assessment
J. Uses formative assessment to analyze progress toward student goals
K. Administers assessments that allow students to respond in a variety of ways to the curriculum that's taught
L. Ensures that students display knowledge of mathematics content standards
O. Maintains a communication system between the classroom and students' parents/guardians
P. Builds positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents/guardians, and school community
Q. Other duties as assigned by administration
Physical Requirement & Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in an elementary school setting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during the workday
- Occasionally lift and carry supplies or deliveries weighing up to 25 lbs
- Regularly operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, phones, etc.
