Welcome to Olive Tree Day School - "where children flourish". Our little school is looking for a Prek Aide to assist our lead teacher for the Fall school year. The class is currently at 15 students and 12 of them are returning students that aware of the school and classroom rules and expecations. This position is great for a candidate that is looking to get into early childhood education and shadow and assit one of the best teachers I have ever worked with!
This position is from 8 - 1:30 pm - Mon - Thurs pay rate starts at $18.00 an hour.
The Teacher Aide supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and Christ-centered learning environment for young children. The Teacher Aide assists with classroom activities, supervision, routines, transitions, sanitation, and the overall care and well-being of children.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES1. Child Supervision and Safety
- Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining active supervision of all children at all times.
- Help ensure children are safe during classroom activities, outdoor play, transitions, meals, rest periods, and other daily routines.
- Maintain awareness of children's locations, activities, and needs.
- Assist with maintaining appropriate staff-to-child ratios as established by California licensing requirements.
- Immediately report injuries, accidents, unusual behavior, safety concerns, or other incidents to the Lead Teacher and/or Director.
- Follow all OTDS emergency, disaster, evacuation, health, and safety procedures.
- Never leave children unsupervised.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
2. Classroom Support
- Assist the Lead Teacher with implementation of the daily classroom schedule.
- Prepare classroom materials, activities, centers, and supplies as directed.
- Assist children during art, sensory, literacy, math, science, music, dramatic play, Bible, and other learning activities.
- Encourage children to participate in activities in an age-appropriate and positive manner.
- Support hands-on, play-based learning.
- Help children develop independence, confidence, communication, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.
- Assist with classroom transitions and routines.
- Help maintain classroom organization throughout the day.
3. Faith-Based Responsibilities
Olive Tree Day School is a Christian, faith-based school. The Teacher Aide is expected to support the school's Christian mission and educational philosophy.
Responsibilities may include:
- Modeling Christ-like kindness, patience, compassion, forgiveness, honesty, and respect.
- Participating appropriately in classroom Bible lessons, prayer, worship, and faith-based activities as directed by the Lead Teacher.
- Supporting children as they learn age-appropriate biblical principles.
- Treating every child and family with dignity, love, respect, and compassion.
- Supporting the school's Christian values and maintaining an atmosphere that reflects the mission of OTDS.
- Conducting oneself professionally and respectfully in accordance with the school's faith-based policies and employee expectations.
4. Communication with Families
- Greet children and families warmly and professionally.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with families.
- Communicate routine classroom information to families when directed by the Lead Teacher.
- Refer questions regarding curriculum, discipline, enrollment, tuition, developmental concerns, or other administrative matters to the Lead Teacher or Director.
- Do not make promises, commitments, or decisions on behalf of the school without authorization.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and school operations.
5. Professional Responsibilities
- Arrive on time and be prepared to work at the scheduled start time.
- Maintain a professional appearance consistent with OTDS dress and appearance standards.
- Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
- Follow directions from the Lead Teacher and Director.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, orientations, and professional development as required.
- Maintain all required employment, health, background clearance, and training documentation.
- Follow all OTDS policies and procedures.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children, families, and coworkers.
- Use personal cell phones and electronic devices only in accordance with OTDS policy.
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of children and families at all times.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The Teacher Aide must meet all applicable California licensing, employment, health, safety, and background-check requirements for the position.
Depending on the individual's assigned duties and status, additional education, training, permits, or experience may be required.
The employee must:
- Must be 18 years old and have at least 6 units in child development coursework.
- Complete required criminal background clearance and associated clearance requirements before working with children as required by law.
- Complete required health screening and immunization documentation.
- Complete required mandated reporter training and other legally required training.
- Maintain current pediatric CPR and first-aid certification when required for the position and/or assigned duties.
- Support the Christian mission and faith-based philosophy of Olive Tree Day School.
