Job Summary
At C NRG Fleet, we operate as a close‑knit team committed to service, integrity, and operational excellence. In a small, collaborative team environment, every role contributes significantly to supporting our customers, fleet partners, and unattended fueling locations. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the company’s financial operations by managing general ledger account reconciliations, recurring monthly entries, fuel inventory reconciliation, serving as key support to the Chief Financial Officer and backup to the Accounting Specialists when they are out of the office.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts related to petroleum marketing operations, including fuel purchases, sales, transportation, freight, terminal fees, taxes, inventory, and margins.
- Reconcile fuel volumes, inventory balances, rack purchases, terminal statements, carrier invoices, and supplier/customer activity to ensure accurate operational and financial reporting.
- Prepare customer and vendor settlements, research discrepancies, and coordinate timely resolution with internal teams and external business partners.
- Analyze gross margin, product cost, freight, inventory adjustments, shrink/gain activity, and other key drivers of financial performance.
- Support motor fuel tax, excise tax, sales tax, environmental fee, and other petroleum-related compliance reporting as needed.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing documentation, reconciliations, schedules, and explanations of account activity.
- Partner with operations, logistics, supply, pricing, credit, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury teams to improve workflow, controls, and reporting accuracy.
- Identify process improvement opportunities, strengthen accounting controls, and help standardize procedures across petroleum marketing accounting functions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, revenue and expense recognition, accrual accounting, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and analysis of large data sets.
- Ability to research and resolve complex accounting discrepancies using operational and financial systems.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, judgment, and commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in petroleum marketing, fuel distribution, downstream energy, convenience retail fuel, terminal operations, crude/refined products, or a closely related industry.
- Experience with petroleum accounting systems, ERP platforms, fuel management systems, or terminal/supply chain data sources.
- Knowledge of fuel tax reporting, supplier billing, rack pricing, common carrier freight, terminal throughput, and inventory gain/loss accounting.
Education & Experience
- CPA, CMA, or progress toward professional certification.
- Experience with process automation, accounting system implementations, or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prior experience mentoring junior accounting staff or reviewing workpapers and reconciliations.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
