We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) to join our pediatric therapy team. This position is ideal for an individual who is passionate about working with children, particularly those who exhibit behavior difficulties. As an SLPA, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide speech and language therapy services to children in a dynamic, supportive, and collaborative setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in implementing speech and language therapy programs for children with behavioral challenges, such as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and other communication disorders.
- Conduct speech therapy sessions and activities as directed by the supervising SLP, ensuring progress towards therapeutic goals.
- Provide targeted interventions to address specific communication and behavioral needs (e.g., expressive/receptive language, social communication skills, articulation, fluency).
- Implement strategies as recommended by the SLP and collaborate with behavioral therapists to create a holistic support plan.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date therapy records, tracking progress, and providing written and verbal updates to the supervising SLP.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with families and caregivers, providing regular feedback and recommendations for at-home strategies to support language development and behavior management.
- Assist with creating and adapting therapy materials and resources to ensure effective communication interventions.
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other professionals (e.g., Occupational Therapists, Behavior Analysts, Teachers) to ensure comprehensive support for each child.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field.
- Valid state license or certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA).
- Experience or interest in working with pediatric populations, especially children with behavior difficulties such as ASD, ADHD, and other developmental disorders.
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and other adaptive communication devices is a plus.
- Strong understanding of speech and language development, behavior management techniques, and therapeutic interventions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with children and their families.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Patience, creativity, and flexibility in working with children who may display challenging behaviors.
