Overview
The Facilities Engineering Project Manager is responsible for leading engineering and project management efforts for manufacturing facility improvements at John Deere's Waterloo location. The role includes coordinating projects involving infrastructure systems such as HVAC, fiber optics, and alarm systems, while also managing administrative responsibilities, including work permits and equipment sign-offs.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Relevant Work Experience
- Experience in project management
- Cross-functional experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Supervision, and/or Maintenance Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience coordinating multiple skilled trades and contractors to achieve project objectives
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with building infrastructure systems, including mechanical, electrical, and structural systems
- Minimum of 3 years of understanding engineering principles related to manufacturing operations
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple active projects simultaneously
- Ability to communicate and coordinate project activities with personnel and middle management
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
Primary Position Responsibilities & Duties
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide engineering and project management support for implementing changes within Tractor Operations' manufacturing facilities.
Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and/or Maintenance is recommended, along with knowledge of Emergency Notification Systems (ENS).
This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing facilities and maintenance work related to facility infrastructure, production equipment, and manufacturing processes of moderate scope.
Works within a team environment while assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work of support staff and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and manage multi-discipline facilities and maintenance projects
- Review and coordinate Hot Work Requests and Red Tag reviews
- Provide engineering design support for facility infrastructure, grounds, production equipment, and manufacturing processes through internal and external engineering resources
- Manage projects involving facility infrastructure, production machinery, equipment, and processes that support manufacturing and distribution operations
- Oversee projects of moderate complexity that may involve multiple engineering disciplines and limited coordination of outside design professionals and contractors
- Troubleshoot facility infrastructure and production equipment to support manufacturing, production, distribution, and maintenance operations
- Perform life safety and building code analysis while supporting and implementing programs focused on injury and illness prevention
- Assist in identifying and resolving environmental, safety, ergonomic, and health hazards
- Support projects involving Emergency Notification Systems (ENS), FM Global Insurance coordination, and IT/network infrastructure
- Coordinate the application, engineering, and installation of non-mobile material handling equipment
- Research and identify qualified suppliers for materials and services
- Source competitive and negotiated materials, equipment, and services for maintenance and new construction projects assigned to engineering
