Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to maintain optimal oral health.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and patient comfort.
- Take and develop medical imaging such as X-rays while ensuring proper safety protocols are followed.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including documentation review and updates in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Follow strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice in a clinical setting.
- Proven experience in dental office environments with knowledge of general dentistry procedures and pediatric dentistry is preferred.
- Proficiency in dental terminology, medical coding, and documentation review for accurate recordkeeping.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for efficient patient management.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, medical terminology, infection control practices, and HIPAA regulations to ensure compliance and confidentiality.
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to assess patient needs effectively and communicate clearly.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team specializing in pediatrics or general dentistry while maintaining high standards of aseptic technique and infection prevention.
