Responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional patient care in a progressive Post-Critical Unit (PCU) setting located in Tennessee. The ideal candidate will possess extensive critical care experience, including familiarity with complex medical procedures and advanced patient assessment skills. The Travel PCU RN will be responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care, ensuring patient safety, and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, and Athenahealth, along with a strong foundation in medical documentation and HIPAA compliance.
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the PCU, including those requiring acute pain management, ventilator support, and complex assessments.
- Monitor vital signs, perform physical examinations, and evaluate patient physiology to inform clinical decisions.
- Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Manage airway care, tube feeding, catheterization, and wound suturing as needed within the scope of practice.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists on procedures such as cardiac catheterization, dialysis, and ostomy care to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner while maintaining HIPAA standards.
- Assist with specimen collection, laboratory testing, and diagnostic evaluations including sonography or medical imaging when required.
- Support patients with diverse needs including those in memory care, behavioral health units, or working with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a RN
- Minimum of 1 recent year of nursing experience in PCU
- Must reside within 100 miles of Johnson City Medical Center (TN)
- Current AHA BLS certification
- Current AHA ACLS certification
- Current NIHSS certification
- Valid RN license
- Ability to attend general orientation starting on Sundays
- Able to work a 36/36 or 36/48 schedule, with flexibility for OT shifts
- Ability to participate in clinical education and support nursing students
- Demonstrates competency in medical/surgical and PCU care activities
- Proficient in use of Electronic Health Record (Epic preferred)
- Comfortable working in a hybrid unit with PCU and MSPCU patients
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in trauma level I or level II (level I preferred)
- Experience with charting systems (Epic preferred)
- Previous hospital, LTAC, or community hospital experience
- Experience with NV (neurosurgical), post-neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, CVA (stroke)
- Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE, Wound Care/Wound Vac
- Experience with rapid response/Code teams
- Skilled in oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks), intensive care procedures
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary support teams including IV, PT, respiratory, pharmacy, interpretation services
- Strong understanding of patient care within a high-acuity and trauma environment.
- Willingness to adhere to hospital policies regarding no call-in and limited floating, specifically between like units and within a 20-mile radius between campuses.
