We are currently seeking a Machine Operator/Sawyer to operate a commercial grade band saw for our Salt Lake City, UT location on the night shift.
Job Summary:
- Operate commercial grade band saw cutting structural steel.
- Measure steel products to cut pieces to precise measurements.
- Perform all warehouse and other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Cuts steel using various size saws in a safe and efficient manner.
- Inspect equipment for all safety guards and operational features
- Clean work area before and after shift.
- Replenish all fluids, cutting oils and hydraulic oil as needed.
- Must be able to read tape measures and micrometers and a square and have good math skills to ensure the cuts are done properly and to the correct length thus minimizing cutting time.
- Must be forklift certified and have the ability to load cutting tables and restock material.
- Must be capable of incorporating saw cutting into the load stacking processes and proficiently use a torch and banding equipment.
- Must be able to run cranes if running the saw in the warehouse.
- Must know material by sight to identify it before cutting.
- Must be able to read and identify paper work problems before proceeding to avoid errors and costly mistakes.
- Must be able to evaluate cutting time and meet the requirements expected by the company.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to work a variety of hours.
- The ability to understand and communicate the English language both verbal and written.
- Band saw experience preferred
- Steel Industry experience preferred
- Perform all warehouse and other duties as assigned
