Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Mental Health Technician to oversee and support mental health care delivery in a dynamic inpatient setting. This role is vital in ensuring the safety, well-being, and recovery of individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges. The Lead Mental Health Tech will provide leadership to a team of mental health technicians, coordinate patient care activities, and collaborate closely with clinical staff to promote a therapeutic environment. Duties
- Supervise and mentor a team of mental health technicians, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and safety standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans for patients with psychiatric conditions.
- Monitor patient behavior continuously, observing for signs of agitation, distress, or escalation, and intervene appropriately.
- Support crisis intervention efforts by de-escalating potentially volatile situations using behavioral management techniques.
- Administer medications accurately following prescribed orders while maintaining detailed medical records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Conduct patient observations and document behavioral responses, progress notes, and incident reports thoroughly.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including psychiatry, nursing, and social work—to coordinate comprehensive psychiatric care.
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to infection control procedures, safety protocols, and hospital policies.
Experience
- Prior experience working in psychiatric or behavioral health settings within hospitals or corrections facilities is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric care practices, crisis intervention strategies, and acute care procedures.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or behavioral health needs is essential.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and patient monitoring techniques is required.
- Proven leadership skills in supervising healthcare staff within a hospital or correctional environment are advantageous.
- Background in nursing or related healthcare fields with relevant certifications such as CPR/First Aid is desirable.
