Job Summary:
The Mobile Trailer Technician is responsible for responding to service calls and performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and inspections tasks on trailers to ensure they are safe, efficient, and roadworthy. Primary duties of this role include travelling to customer locations for on-site maintenance, diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and structural issues, repairing or replacing damaged components, and providing expert recommendations on trailer upkeep. The Mobile Trailer Technician uses specialized tools and equipment to perform repairs on various trailer types, such as suspension adjustments, brake repairs, electrical wiring, minor body repairs, and more. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of trailer systems, problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform mechanic repairs independently. This position is safety sensitive.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Promptly respond to service calls and provide on-site diagnosis and maintenance
- Independently diagnose and repair various trailer components, including suspension systems, electrical wiring, doors, roofs, and panels
- Perform basic air brake maintenance; complete brake jobs, S-cam bushing replacements, brake chamber replacements, and air valve replacements
- Using proper torque procedures, complete axle wheel assemblies including proper installation of hub and drum assemblies, bearings, seals, and races
- Troubleshoot and repair all aspects of electrical wiring systems, including all lights, 7-way receptacles, interior lighting and switches
- Perform minor body repairs and maintenance, such as R&R body side panels, swing and roll-door panels, and roof and floor sections
- Complete minor undercarriage maintenance and repairs, including R&R crossmembers, ICC bumpers, spring hangers, dolly wing plates, and dolly legs and bracing
- Perform preventative maintenance, which includes maintaining proper oil levels in hubcaps, ensuring proper air pressure in tires, greasing all fittings, ensuring proper adjustments on S-cam brakes, and performing minor light repairs and replacements
- Create work orders; accurately document all work performed and parts used in compliance with SOPs
- Monitor and maintain parts inventory for service truck
- Ensure customer satisfaction by completing repairs to a high standard and provide customer service when addressing concerns or answering customer questions
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
- Adhere to all safety standards and SOPs during all repair activities, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and hearing protection
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Mechanical proficiency and technical skills
- Strong understanding of tools and specialized equipment used in trailer maintenance
- Strong carpentry, welding, and/or fabrication skills
- Intermediate knowledge of trailer systems
- Understanding of DOT regulations
- Basic proficiency with computer systems
- Safety awareness
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Must have a valid driver’s license and remain insurable
Education/Experience:
- Three to four years of trailer maintenance and repair experience and/or training
- Experience in the trailer/transportation industry

- Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to work at heights using lifts and ladders
