School Social Worker - Travel & Local | Clinton Township, MI | 2026-2027 SY
Travel Pay Packages (W2 + Tax Free Stipends): $2,300 - $2,500 gross weekly. Each package is a taxable hourly wage plus non-taxable housing and meal stipends. On our standard structure that nets out comparable to a fully taxed Michigan role paying roughly $78 to $84 per hour. Must reside 50 miles or further from the District to be eligible for this package.
Local Pay Packages (W2): $50 - $60 per hour, for social workers living within 50 miles of the assignment.
Sevn Workforce Solutions is hiring an in-person School Social Worker for a K-12 public school district in Clinton Township, Michigan, for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a specific, currently open assignment in Macomb County, not a general talent pool.
The Role
You would carry a school-based caseload and work as part of the district's student services team.
- Social work services delivered under IEPs, including individual and small group intervention
- Social, emotional, and behavioral assessment, including social developmental histories and functional behavior assessments
- Participation in IEP, MET, and multidisciplinary evaluation teams, plus eligibility and annual review meetings
- Crisis response, threat and risk assessment support, and safety planning
- Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports within the building's MTSS or PBIS framework
- Attendance, truancy, and family engagement work, including connecting families to community mental health and county resources
- Consultation with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, counselors, and outside providers
Grade band, caseload size, the split between IEP-driven and general education work, and how many buildings you would cover are all confirmed with you before you accept. You will know what you are walking into.
Why School Social Workers Are Choosing Travel Contracts
- More of your package reaches you. Non-taxable housing and meal stipends lower your taxable income and raise your net pay. The math is spelled out above rather than hidden behind a "competitive pay" line.
- A caseload you agreed to. You know the ratio, the buildings, and the scope before you sign, which is not how most school social work jobs start.
- Students who genuinely need you. Districts posting a role like this have usually been covering it with a stretched existing team or leaving it open. Your impact is immediate and visible.
- A stronger resume. A new district, a new population, and a new set of systems add real range to your practice and to your clinical hours if you are still accumulating them.
- A clean exit. One school year, defined scope, no politics you inherited and none you have to stay for. If it is a fit, districts often ask travelers to stay.
- Real balance. Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours, school holidays, summers off, and time between assignments to recharge.
The 50-Mile Rule (You May Already Qualify)
You do not have to cross state lines to earn travel pay. If this assignment is more than 50 miles from your permanent residence, you may qualify as a traveler and become eligible for the non-taxable stipends that make the package work. For a Clinton Township assignment that captures a lot of Michigan: Lansing, Saginaw, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Toledo, and most of west and northern Michigan are comfortably outside 50 miles, and plenty of our travelers come home on weekends.
Live in metro Detroit, Macomb, Oakland, or Wayne County? You are almost certainly inside 50 miles, which means you would work this as a local contract at $50 to $60 per hour instead. That is a strong rate with none of the housing complexity. We will tell you honestly which path you fall into rather than letting you find out at onboarding.
