Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Optometric Technician/Patient Care Coordinator to join our dynamic eye care team. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional service while assisting with ophthalmic examinations and managing clinical and administrative tasks. Duties
- Greet patients warmly, verify insurance information, and perform intake procedures to gather comprehensive medical history and current concern
- Conduct ophthalmic tests including eye refraction, and intraocular pressure checks in accordance with clinical confidentiality policies
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations while managing electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems accurately and efficiently
- Support clinical staff by practicing aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure patient safety
- Provide excellent patient service by explaining procedures, answering questions, and scheduling follow-up appointments or referrals as needed
- Manage understanding insurance benefits, and performing retail math for transactions
- Document medical records thoroughly, including notes on ophthalmic examinations and diagnostic imaging results, adhering to medical coding standards for billing purposes
- Ensure the proper operation of ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as A-scan devices and tonometers while maintaining their calibration and cleanliness
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or ophthalmology practice is highly preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye health, anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmic diagnostics
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for managing electronic health records efficiently
- Experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment like A-scan biometry devices and tonometers
- Demonstrated ability to provide direct patient care with excellent communication skills in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and maintaining strict patient confidentiality at all times
- Retail sales experience combined with basic math skills for handling transactions confidently
- Basic knowledge of medical coding practices relevant to ophthalmology procedures
