Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Cardiac Stepdown units to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide expert nursing care to patients with cardiac conditions in a travel capacity, working overnight shifts in. Key responsibilities include delivering specialized cardiac nursing care, performing detailed patient assessments, administering medications and treatments such as IV infusions and suturing, utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic and Cerner, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. You will also be responsible for monitoring vital signs, managing acute pain, and providing education to patients and families. This position emphasizes critical thinking, precision in documentation, and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
Duties
- Provide expert nursing care for patients in the cardiac stepdown unit, including those with complex arrhythmias or post-cardiac catheterization recovery.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physiology evaluations, and medical history reviews.
- Administer medications accurately via injections or IV infusion while adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Monitor patients’ cardiac rhythms using telemetry equipment and respond promptly to abnormal findings.
- Perform advanced procedures such as suturing, catheterization care, or ostomy management as required.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly within EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Support discharge planning by coordinating with case management teams and providing patient education on medication regimens and lifestyle modifications.
- Assist in emergency situations using critical care response procedures; manage airway or ventilator needs when necessary.
- Maintain infection control standards through proper sterilization techniques and specimen collection.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care delivery.
Experience
Candidates must possess a valid RN license with significant clinical experience in cardiac or critical care settings. Prior experience working within Level I or Level II trauma centers is highly desirable. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner is essential. The ideal applicant will have hands-on experience managing telemetry monitoring, IV insertion, medication administration—including botulinum toxin treatments—and performing complex procedures like catheterization or tube feeding.
Additional preferred qualifications include familiarity with advanced cardiac interventions (e.g., ICD coding), laboratory experience related to diagnostic evaluation, knowledge of infectious disease care protocols, and experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, or individuals with developmental disabilities. Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance, medical terminology mastery, and acute care experience are crucial for success in this role.
