TITLE: Form Fill Seal (FFS) Machine Operator
SUMMARY:
The Form Fill Seal (FFS) Machine Operator is primarily responsible for the setup, operation, and high-level maintenance of automated powder packaging equipment. This position balances the daily production needs of Form Fill Seal (FFS) lines with the technical expertise required to perform mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. This role ensures equipment reliability and product quality in accordance with HMC, Bartel, and SolPac machine standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate and monitor Form Fill Seal (FFS) machines to package Nutraceutical Supplements.
- Set up machines for scheduled runs, including mechanical adjustments, and performing efficient changeovers between product types and packaging formats.
- Conduct visual and weight-based quality checks for fill accuracy, seal integrity, and product coding.
- Follow Clean-In-Place (CIP) procedures and line cleaning protocols during changeovers.
- Record production data, downtime, and equipment adjustments accurately in batch logs using Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Diagnose and resolve both mechanical and basic electrical concerns to maintain continuous production flow and minimize downtime.
- Execute scheduled work orders and preventive maintenance inspections during designated maintenance windows.
- Maintain ownership of assigned lines, escalating machinery breakdowns effectively to improve long-term equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Collaborate with engineering teams on complex repairs and initiatives to optimize material sequencing and reduce changeover time.
- Supports all food safety and quality systems requirements by committing to meet all pertinent regulatory, customer, certifying body, GFSI, and company requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience with multi-lane, vertical/horizontal FFS systems, auger fillers, and general pneumatics.
- Basic understanding of GMP, HACCP, FDA standards, and OSHA regulations.
- Proficient with hand tools and Microsoft Office Suite for documenting maintenance activities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with production and maintenance leadership.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1–3 years of experience in machine operation or maintenance, specifically within a food, supplement, or pharmaceutical environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Constantly (minimum of 8 hrs. but up to 10 hrs.) stand, walk, and use hands/fingers to handle/feel per shift.
- Requires frequently (up to 6 hrs.) reaching above shoulder level per shift.
- Requires occasional (up to 3 hrs.) climbing and reaching below shoulder level per shift.
- Occasionally (up to 3 hrs.) lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Production environment with exposure to airborne powders, allergens, and moderate noise.
