Black Hydrovac is seeking a Hydrovac Operator to join our team supporting commercial construction projects across the DMV area. We offer competitive compensation, full benefits, and a growth-focused work environment. This is a full-time, in-person role based out of Bristow, VA, with field assignments across regional job sites.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Operate hydrovac trucks and equipment to safely perform vacuum excavation, including daylighting utilities, trenching, potholing, storm drain cleaning, and debris removal.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of assigned truck and equipment through routine inspections and minor maintenance.
- Adhere to all OSHA and company safety standards and actively contribute to a safety-first work culture.
- Communicate clearly with crew members, supervisors, and clients to complete work efficiently and professionally.
- Accurately complete job site documentation using mobile tools and reporting procedures.
- Guide assistant operators with setup, cleanup, and hose management.
- Demonstrate flexibility by performing other duties as assigned to support the success of each job.
- Willingness to work on short notice and adapt to evolving job site needs.
Requirements:
- Valid CDL Class A or B with a clean driving record.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check, MVR, and drug screening.
- OSHA 10 certification (or willingness to obtain within the first 30 days).
- Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, stand for 8–10 hours, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Availability for early start times, extended hours, occasional weekends, and regional travel (up to 25%).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to function in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to doing the job right
- 1+ year of hydrovac or heavy equipment operation experience
- Experience on commercial construction job sites
- Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues
- Familiarity with utility locating, vacuum systems, or similar excavation techniques
- Prior experience in utility, military engineering, or site development roles
