Shop Foreman Key Responsibilities:
- Train & Mentor: Act as the primary on-the-floor trainer for apprentice technicians, helping guide and mentor them through complex diagnostic and repair procedures.
- Help with daily shop floor operations
- Quality Control: Inspect and road-test completed vehicles to verify the accuracy of repairs before final sign-off.
- Technical Support: Help technicians diagnose stubborn failures and recommend efficient, correct repair pathways.
Shop Foreman Hands-On Diagnostics & Repair:
- Lead by Example: Maintain high personal productivity by performing complex diagnostics, advanced electrical troubleshooting, and major mechanical repairs.
- Share Knowledge: Stay updated on product changes, technical service bulletins (TSBs), and warranty updates, and disseminate this information to the team.
- Lead Safety Lead: Lead monthly "toolbox meetings" to discuss safety compliance, new repair patterns, and departmental goals.
Shop Foreman Customer & Service Coordination:
- Consult & Advise: Review work requests, identify additional necessary or preventative maintenance, and assist service advisors in explaining technical needs to customers.
- Document Care: Ensure all technician stories, diagnostic steps, and parts used are documented accurately on repair orders.
Shop Foreman Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 5+ years of advanced heavy truck/automotive repair experience, with a proven track record of fixing vehicles right the first time. Cummins, Paccar, Eaton type training and knowledge preferred.
- Leadership: Prior experience as a team lead or management helpful.
- Certifications: ASE Master Technician certification or equivalent OEM manufacturer training is required.
- Physical: Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) with a clean driving record and can pass a drug test.
