DESCRIPTION:
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading and maintaining the company’s quality management system in a job shop environment. This position ensures that products and processes consistently meet customer specifications, applicable industry standards, and internal quality requirements.
The Quality Manager works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Customer Service to prevent quality issues, resolve nonconformances, improve processes, and maintain strong customer relationships. The ideal candidate is a hands-on quality professional who is comfortable working on the shop floor as well as managing quality systems, documentation, audits, and continuous improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure compliance with applicable customer, industry, regulatory, and company quality requirements.
- Maintain quality procedures, work instructions, forms, inspection records, and other controlled documentation.
- Establish and monitor quality objectives and performance metrics.
- Prepare for and support customer, registrar, and regulatory audits.
- Ensure customer-specific requirements are communicated effectively to production and inspection personnel.
- Work directly with customers to resolve quality concerns and provide required documentation.
- Support first article inspections, source inspections, customer inspections, and special process requirements as applicable.
- Resolves customer complaints, returns, and requests for corrective action.
- Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities.
- Support production personnel in identifying and preventing quality issues.
- Review inspection results and ensure appropriate disposition of nonconforming material.
- Perform root-cause analysis using appropriate problem-solving methods.
- Develop and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, rework, defects, and customer complaints.
- Use quality data and production trends to identify areas for improvement.
- Participate in process improvement, lean manufacturing, and root-cause analysis initiatives.
- Train and coach employees on quality requirements and problem-solving techniques.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive quality experience in a manufacturing environment; job shop, machining, fabrication, aerospace, defense, medical, or similar experience preferred.
- Previous experience managing or leading a quality function.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, drawings, specifications, and inspection methods.
- Experience with a Quality Management System such as ISO 9001, AS9100, 13485. standard.
- Strong knowledge of root-cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement.
- Experience with dimensional inspection equipment and measurement systems.
- Familiarity with Mitutoyo CMM Equipment and MCOSMOS software a plus
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, engineers, inspectors, and shop-floor personnel.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems.
