This role follows a hybrid work schedule, with required onsite work every Tuesday and Wednesday. Employees will work from either 1 Corewell Health Place or the Consolidated Service Center.
Job Summary
With minimal supervision, the Contract Specialist acts as the subject matter expert for all contract-related activities. This includes developing and collaborating with other sourcing team members regarding the negotiation of contract terms, conditions, modifications, penalties, and incentives, as well as working with key stakeholders to ensure that their requirements are met. This position will analyze and evaluate change to drive continuous improvement in the process of contract management and contract management trends.
The Contract Specialist leads the proactive, methodical management of agreements from initiation through execution, and renewal. Additionally, this position manages resolving problems, mitigating delays, mediating disputes, and escalating issues in the contract process. Contract Specialists at this level are competent to work in most areas of contract management but may require guidance in others.
Essential Functions
- Creates a customer-focused, service-based approach to working with stakeholders and suppliers, which emphasizes the creation and cultivation of cross-organizational relationships. Accountable as a role model for customer service excellence
- Contributes to relationships with managers, business units, supply chain and suppliers to support objectives, influence key stakeholders and support strategic sourcing strategies
- Actively collaborates in the Contract Specialist Community of Practice (COP) and Subgroups in development of initiatives and achievement of outcomes
- Assists with the development of all contracts, including but not limited to; leases, license agreements, amendments, terminations, purchase agreements, management agreements, and statements of work (SOWs)
- Manages the contract development process and assists with the negotiation process for sourcing initiatives. Enters/maintains current information in the internal contract repository and the system contract database
- Assists in the development of audit strategies to ensure all contracts remain in compliance. Continuously participates in process improvement initiatives and acts as a champion for change
- Gains knowledge of compliance and regulation changes affecting health care and works in a coordinated way with the legal and compliance departments to develop the appropriate strategies and methodologies to maintain compliance for all contracts
- Manages contract review process to ensure timely delivery against objectives and contractual budgets, and informs internal customers, suppliers and management of activities and progress, through both verbal and written communications. With minimal supervision acts as the principal contract owner for all assigned contracts
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree
- 2 years of relevant experience related field
Preferred
- 5 years of relevant experience negotiating and managing contract lifecycles
- Experience in finance or contract management
- Healthcare real estate experience, with knowledge of best practices for contract negotiation tactics and strategies
- Working knowledge of Stark and Anti-Kickback laws
