Controls Engineer – 2nd Shift (Hybrid Maintenance Role)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Controls Engineer to join our 2nd shift operations. This is a hybrid role that combines controls engineering expertise with maintenance support responsibilities, ensuring optimal performance of automated equipment and systems across the facility.
The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMI systems, and industrial robotics (Fanuc and ABB), with the ability to troubleshoot, modify, and improve both hardware and software. You’ll also play a critical role in supporting maintenance teams to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and program PLC and HMI systems (Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix).
- Support robotic systems (Fanuc, ABB) including fault recovery, path teaching, I/O setup, and routine maintenance.
- Provide 2nd shift controls support for production lines, including electrical, controls, and robotic diagnostics.
- Modify and optimize existing automation programs to improve performance and reduce downtime.
- Assist maintenance technicians with root cause analysis and repairs of equipment failures.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to implement control system upgrades and automation improvements.
- Maintain accurate documentation including electrical schematics, panel layouts, and PLC/robotic code backups.
- Ensure compliance with plant safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Support preventive maintenance activities and contribute to long-term reliability improvements.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with industrial controls and automation systems.
- Proven experience programming and troubleshooting Siemens (S7/TIA Portal) and Allen-Bradley (RSLogix/Studio 5000) PLCs.
- Working knowledge of Fanuc and/or ABB robot programming and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, including VFDs, sensors, and safety circuits.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder logic.
- Comfortable working independently on 2nd shift, with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in manufacturing or high-speed automated environments.
- Preventive and predictive maintenance experience.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily plant floor environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders or in confined spaces as needed.
- Will require occasional support during other shifts, weekends, or shutdowns.

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
