Position Summary
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Supervisor is responsible for supporting and implementing environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and company policies. This position provides leadership and guidance to employees and supervisors regarding workplace safety, environmental compliance, hazard identification, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. The EHS Supervisor assists in developing a strong safety culture while reducing workplace injuries, environmental risks, and regulatory compliance issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Management
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs and policies.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and audits to identify hazards and verify regulatory compliance.
- Lead and participate in incident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor and track safety performance metrics, including TRIR, DART, near misses, and corrective actions.
- Support the facility's safety committee and employee engagement initiatives.
- Evaluate workplace hazards and recommend engineering, administrative, and PPE controls.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA/VOSH regulations and company safety standards.
Environmental Compliance
- Assist in maintaining compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
- Support stormwater, wastewater, air quality, hazardous waste, and chemical management programs.
- Conduct environmental inspections and maintain required records.
- Assist with regulatory reporting and environmental audits.
- Coordinate corrective actions resulting from environmental inspections and findings.
Training and Employee Development
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors.
- Conduct new hire safety orientation and annual regulatory training.
- Verify training documentation and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Coach supervisors and employees on safe work practices and hazard recognition.
Emergency Preparedness
- Assist in developing and maintaining emergency response plans.
- Participate in emergency response drills and exercises.
- Coordinate emergency equipment inspections and readiness activities.
- Support incident response efforts during emergencies.
Compliance and Recordkeeping
- Maintain EHS records required by OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
- Assist with preparation for regulatory inspections and audits.
- Maintain SDS files and Hazard Communication program documentation.
- Track corrective actions to closure and verify effectiveness.
Leadership
- Provide guidance and support to supervisors and employees regarding EHS requirements.
- Promote employee accountability and ownership of EHS programs.
- Foster a positive safety culture focused on continuous improvement.
- Serve as a role model for safe work practices and environmental stewardship.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise Ops trainers, Technicians, or Specialists.
- May oversee contractor safety activities and compliance initiatives.
- Coordinates EHS activities across multiple locations, departments or shifts.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience performing EHS-related job duties.
