The Grant Writer will help grow Alliance for Positive Change’s portfolio of government, foundation, and corporate funders by: 1) assist with identifying funding opportunities and analyzing them for alignment with Alliance’s priorities; 2) researching, drafting, editing, and fact-checking narratives, reports, and related materials; 3) collaborating with the Grants Management team to produce high-quality applications, submit proposals on deadline, and continually improve our strategic case-making and grants-development processes; and 4) managing multiple applications projects and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research, analyze, and assess government and foundation funding opportunities.
Coordinate with program, finance, and leadership teams to align proposal narratives (and other materials) with budgetary and strategic priorities.
Write, copyedit, fact-check, organize, package, and submit proposals, letters of inquiries, acknowledgement letters, reports, budget documents, and related materials.
Narrate Alliance’s impact and translate internal and external data into compelling case making for diverse city, state, and federal funders, foundations, and corporations.
Monitor our funders’ reporting requirements; assist in developing reports that adhere to deadlines; engage in other routine communication with current and prospective funders.
Assist with maintaining the team’s Salesforce administrative database, dashboard reports, and grants planning calendar. Contribute to enhancing systems, workflows, and editorial processes.
Attend supervision, departmental, agency, and/or external meetings as directed and perform other duties required to support the Grants Management team’s success.
Attend a minimum of two Alliance events for clients (e.g., holiday party) and one fundraising event (e.g., Alliance’s Open House, NY AIDS Walk) in every 12-month period.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or higher in Public Health, Public Policy, Professional Writing, etc. or bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Public Administration with a minimum of 2 years’ grant writing experience, especially government grants. Exemplary written and verbal communication skills are priorities. One must be able to edit or tailor their writing for different audiences; framing compelling cases for funding; ensuring accuracy of information; adhering to Alliance’s Editorial Style Guide and other best practices; writing/revising content on deadline; and translating technical information into clear language.
Additional requirements: strong editorial, proofreading, copyediting, factchecking, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; ability to work independently and in close collaboration with the Grants team, program staff, fiscal team, and others. The person to be hired will be adaptable, well-organized, and able to quickly synthetize complex information into clear, well-written funding narratives.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Familiarity with Salesforce and experience using Grants.gov, the New York Statewide Financial System (SFS), and funders’ online grant submission portals are preferred
