Duties
- Assist veterinarians during medical examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Perform medical collections such as blood draws, urine samples, and other laboratory tests to aid in accurate diagnosis.
- Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques for examinations, treatments, and procedures, including dog handling and animal restraint practices.
- Manage kennel duties by feeding, cleaning, monitoring behavior, and providing basic pet grooming to ensure optimal animal comfort and well-being.
- Administer medications and treatments under veterinarian supervision, following DEA regulations for controlled substances and USDA guidelines for animal handling.
- Support laboratory work by preparing samples, operating diagnostic equipment, and maintaining accurate medical records.
- Assist with animal catheterization, intravenous injections, and other critical care procedures for both companion animals and equines when applicable.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all medical procedures, treatments, and patient histories in compliance with veterinary terminology standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience in veterinary medicine
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, veterinary terminology, and medical-surgical procedures.
- Hands-on experience with animal restraint techniques for dogs, and cats
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures including sample collection and analysis.
- Ability to perform animal catheterization and assist in surgical settings with aseptic technique.
- Knowledge of Pet care best practices including grooming, training (dog training), and general animal handling skills.
- Understanding of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations and USDA guidelines related to veterinary practice.
- Excellent communication skills for working effectively with team members and pet owners alike.
