- Pay: $30 per hour to start

- Job Type: Full time

A Note From The Owner
My name is Scott, and I own Heritage Handyman.
I am looking for someone who can become my number two.
This is not a corporate handyman job. You will not disappear into a big system where nobody knows your name, nobody sees your work, and nobody cares if the job is actually great.
I care. A lot.
I care about the details. I care about the client experience. I care about whether the job is actually finished. I care about building a company people trust. And I care about the people who help me build it.
The right person for this role is skilled, dependable, good with clients, and proud of their work. You notice things other people miss. You can walk into a room and see the crooked plate cover, the bad caulk line, the paint edge that needs another pass, the door that still does not close right, or the repair that technically works but does not look professional.
That is the part I cannot train.
I can train our systems, our standards, estimating, job flow, materials, photos, notes, and how we run the business.
But I need someone who already has pride in the details, knows how to explain those details to clients clearly, and understands that trust is built through communication as much as the work itself.
The Opportunity
Heritage is still small enough that you will work directly with me, the owner.
That is the opportunity.
I am not looking for a guy to just clock in, do tasks, and go home. I am looking for a rockstar who wants more responsibility than a normal handyman job can offer.
The goal is to ramp the right person into helping lead the Austin operation by January 1, 2027, with target compensation of $83,000 salary plus performance incentives.
That growth will be based on trust, skill, reliability, leadership, client feedback, low callbacks, clean job completion, clear communication, and the ability to help the company run better without constant oversight.
Leading the Austin operation means more than being the best technician. It means helping run the field, protect the standard, train technicians, communicate with clients, keep jobs moving, and make sure the company gets cleaner and stronger as it grows.
The first 60 to 90 days are about proving fit, skill amongst multiple trades, communication, reliability, and attention to detail. If it is the right fit, the role can grow quickly.
I have high standards, and I am direct about them. But I also know great people deserve to be trusted, appreciated, paid well, and brought with the company as it grows.
If you have been the person who notices what everyone else misses, but you have never had a boss who truly valued that, I want to talk to you.
What Heritage Does
Heritage Handyman handles residential and light commercial repair, installation, and small to medium remodeling work in Austin.
Most of our work is not new construction. We fix broken things, solve weird problems, make repairs look clean, and help clients keep their homes and properties in great shape.
Our work includes electrical, plumbing, drywall, trim, doors, windows, flooring, painting, carpentry, punch lists, make ready work, repairs, installations, and multi trade scopes.
We are not the cheapest handyman company in town. We are building a premium service company known for quality, professionalism, trust, and clean execution.
If we charge a premium, we have to back it up with quality. That is where you come in.
What You Will Do
- Perform high quality handyman and repair work in the field
- Troubleshoot existing homes, occupied spaces, and weird repair problems
- Handle common residential electrical and plumbing repairs with good judgment
- Know when a repair is outside your scope and you need backup, and be okay with saying so
- Lead jobs and help manage other technicians
- Communicate clearly and professionally with homeowners and commercial clients
- Walk jobs and catch missing details before they become problems
- Make sure work is finished correctly the first time
- Take clear photos, notes, and measurements
- Help coordinate materials, schedules, and job flow
- Protect the company standard on every job
- Help train and hold other technicians accountable
- Grow into a larger leadership role as the company grows
What I Am Looking For
- Strong hands on experience across multiple trades
- Extensive knowledge of building materials, supply lists, and the right tools for the job
- Real repair experience, not just new construction experience
- Someone who can fix broken, old, weird, or poorly installed things and find a clean solution
- Someone who is constantly trying to be more efficient and can work fast without missing anything
- Strong working ability with residential electrical and plumbing repairs
- Good judgment when troubleshooting electrical and plumbing issues
- Strong troubleshooting ability across most trades within homes, businesses and occupied spaces
- Someone who can do both repair work, remodel work and small build work when needed
- A creative fixer who can think through a problem when there aren't any instructions
- Someone who notices details other people miss
- Someone who can confidently explain issues to clients without sounding confusing, careless, or unprofessional
- Someone who can lead without needing constant supervision
- Someone who owns the result, not just the task
- Someone who understands that presentation matters and shows up looking like a professional
- Someone who wants a real future with a growing company
Required Experience/Tools
- Verifiable professional experience in handyman work, residential repair, remodeling, maintenance, or construction. 5+ years preferred.
- Reliable, presentable truck suitable for carrying tools, materials, and job supplies
- Your own basic tools (Company-Owned Milwaukee power tools provided for use after initial review period)
- Real repair experience, not just new construction experience
- Strong working ability with residential electrical and plumbing repairs
- Strong troubleshooting ability with existing homes and occupied spaces
- Solid general skills across multiple trades, including drywall, trim, doors, flooring, painting, carpentry, irrigation, lighting, concrete/masonry, demolition, punch list work, and general repairs
- Ability to perform clean repair work and small build work
- Valid driver’s license
- Comfortable using a phone for job notes, photos, scheduling, communication, and basic field software
- Comfortable working in occupied homes and keeping the work area clean, protected, and respectful
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to pass a drug test
Preferred Experience
- Experience leading other technicians
- Experience working directly with homeowners and high end clients
- Experience estimating, walking jobs, and identifying needed materials
- Experience in residential remodeling or premium home service
- Bilingual English and Spanish is a huge plus
This Job Is Not For You If
- You are only comfortable with one or two trades
- You aren't a creative problem solver
- You need constant supervision
- You are careless with details
- You aren't good at being on time
- You leave jobs messy
- You make excuses instead of offering solutions
- You do not communicate clearly
- You do not care how you present yourself to clients
- You are just looking for a clock in and clock out job
- You do not want responsibility
Pay and Incentives
This role starts at $30 per hour. Your raises and ramp will depend on how much you know and how fast you show me that. Initial reviews at 30/60/90 days.
For the right person, the goal is to ramp into helping lead the Austin operation by January 1, 2027, with target compensation of $83,000 salary plus performance incentives.
Incentives will come in after salary is achieved and will be tied to the things that matter: clean job completion, low callbacks, strong client feedback, leadership, clear communication, good notes and photos, and helping the company run better.
I want someone who takes pride in doing things right, and I want that person to be rewarded as the company grows.
How To Apply
Attention to detail matters in this role. I am specifically asking for an email because I want to hear directly from people who took the time to read this listing, and understand the opportunity.
Please email [email protected] with your resume, relevant work history, and a short message answering these questions:
- What trades are you strongest in, and which ones are you still improving? Please be honest here.
- Tell me about a repair job where you had to troubleshoot something weird or poorly installed. What was the problem, and how did you solve it?
- What is something small on a finished job that most people would miss, but you would notice?
- How comfortable are you with residential electrical and plumbing repairs?
- Have you ever led jobs or managed other workers before? What did that look like?
- Why does this role interest you?
Photos of past work are welcome if you have them. References may be requested if we move forward.
If you are looking for a normal handyman job, this isn't going to be the right fit.
If you are looking for a chance to join a company on the ground floor and help build something real as the owner’s right hand, I want to hear from you.
Thanks for taking the time to read this posting. Hopefully we're a good fit.
All the Best,
Scott Ratner
