Middle School Math & Science Teacher
Grades 6–8 | Lighthouse Learning Microschool
Lighthouse Learning Microschool is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and student-centered Middle School Math & Science Teacher to join our team. This position will primarily lead math instruction for students in grades 6–8, while also supporting and teaching middle school science.
At Lighthouse Learning, we believe students learn best in a small, supportive environment where instruction can meet them at their individual level. Our middle school program focuses on small-group instruction, mastery-based learning, meaningful relationships, and hands-on experiences rather than a traditional one-size-fits-all classroom model.
Position Responsibilities
The Middle School Math & Science Teacher will:
- Provide engaging math instruction for students in grades 6–8, working with students according to their academic level and individual learning needs.
- Teach and support middle school science through engaging lessons, labs, demonstrations, projects, and hands-on learning.
- Lead small-group math instruction and provide additional support or enrichment as students progress.
- Differentiate instruction for students working at varying academic levels within the same classroom.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on student understanding and mastery.
- Create a classroom environment that is structured, encouraging, engaging, and relationship-centered.
- Help students develop confidence, independence, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude toward math and science.
- Collaborate with other Lighthouse teachers and leadership to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Communicate professionally and positively with families regarding student progress.
- Participate in schoolwide activities, staff meetings, professional development, and the overall Lighthouse Learning community.
- Support Lighthouse Learning's SOAR expectations: Show Respect, Own Your Actions, Aspire to Your Best, and Rise Together.
We Are Looking for Someone Who...
Enjoys working with middle school students and understands that students at this age need both accountability and strong relationships.
The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching math at different ability levels, can explain concepts in multiple ways, and is willing to move beyond worksheets to help students truly understand what they are learning.
Experience teaching middle school math and/or science is strongly preferred. A background in education, mathematics, science, STEM, engineering, or a related field is beneficial.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is patient, flexible, organized, collaborative, and excited about doing education differently.
