Certified Peer Recovery Supporter (CPRS) / Peer Support Specialist
- DEPARTMENT: Peer Support Services
- LOCATION: Remote / Field-Based (Ohio)
- EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Independent Contractor (1099)
ABOUT EVERGREEN MENTORSHIP
Evergreen Mentorship provides compassionate, high-quality support to empower individuals across Ohio to achieve stability, personal growth, and long-term recovery. We believe in the transformative power of lived experience to guide individuals through complex mental health and substance use challenges.
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking dedicated Certified Peer Recovery Supporters (CPRS) to partner with our network as independent contractors. We are currently looking to engage up to 5 Peer Support Specialists this month.
In this contractor role, independent CPRS professionals leverage their personal lived experience in mental health or substance use recovery to mentor, advocate for, and support clients facing similar life challenges. You will serve as a role model and guide, helping individuals build personal stability and work toward their individual recovery goals within a non-clinical scope of practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lived Experience & Recovery Modeling: Draw on personal lived experience with recovery to build trust, model hope, and support client self-advocacy—providing a distinct, empathetic foundation separate from clinically-directed guidance.
- Non-Clinical Relationship Building: Provide consistent, non-clinical peer companionship and encouragement that complements—but does not duplicate—clinical assessments or traditional mentorship treatment plan authorship.
- CPRS Scope & Documentation: Maintain progress notes strictly within the CPRS scope of practice, documenting peer contact and contractor support activities in full compliance with Ohio Medicaid peer support standards (OAC 5122-29-15.1).
- Certification & Supervision Compliance: Maintain active CPRS state credentials and participate in required peer-specific supervision sessions to ensure alignment with state scope boundaries and contractor standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Lived Experience: Direct personal recovery experience from a mental health condition, substance use disorder, or co-occurring challenges (Required).
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ohio State Certification: Active Certified Peer Recovery Supporter (CPRS) credential in the State of Ohio (or active enrollment/completion of the required Ohio state pathway: 16-hour online modules, 40-hour live training, state examination score of 70% or higher, and active eLicense portal registration).
- Background Check: Ability to successfully pass Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and FBI background checks.
- Core Competencies: Strong active listening, professional communication, boundaries awareness, and effective self-managed time allocation.
CONTRACT COMPENSATION & TERMS
- Contract Rate: $27.00 per billable hour
- Classification: Independent Contractor (1099). Contractors manage their own schedules, taxes, and working equipment.
