Position: Behavior Specialist
Reports To: Director of School Culture
Position Summary:The Behavior Specialist must demonstrate skills in professional behavioral intervention and program administration. This person leads the development and implementation of systems that support students’ social-emotional growth, behavior, and overall well-being. This role provides direct support to students, facilitates restorative practices, and partners with staff to ensure a safe, structured, and positive school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Support
- Design and deliver SEL lessons, workshops, and targeted interventions based on student needs
- Teach and reinforce skills such as self-regulation, conflict resolution, decision-making, and emotional awareness
- Monitor and track student progress in social-emotional development
- Student Behavior Management & Interventions
- Develop and implement individualized behavior support plans
- Provide direct support to students with behavioral challenges using de-escalation and restorative strategies
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of incidents, interventions, and outcomes
- Provide coaching and real-time redirection to students
- Restorative Practices, Re-Entry & Mediation
- Lead re-entry meetings for students returning from suspension or significant behavioral incidents
- Facilitate student mediations and restorative circles to repair harm and rebuild relationships
- Promote accountability while supporting students in making positive behavior changes
- Group Facilitation
- Facilitate small groups focused on topics such as anger management, peer relationships, accountability, and coping strategies
- Create structured, supportive environments where students can reflect and build skills
- Collaboration & Staff Support
- Partner with Deans, counselors, teachers, and families to support student success
- Provide staff with strategies for behavior management and classroom support
- Participate in student support meetings and contribute to school-wide behavior systems
- School Culture & Climate
- Design, promote a positive, inclusive, and structured school environment
- Support school-wide initiatives focused on student accountability, incentives, and culture-building
- Build strong, consistent relationships with students to foster trust and engagement
- Additional Duties
- Support crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed
- Assist with school events, assemblies, and culture initiatives
- Perform other duties aligned to maintaining a safe and effective school environment
- Student arrival and daily operations support
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required (Psychology, Social Work, Education, or related field); Master’s preferred
- Experience working with adolescents in a school or youth development setting
- Strong background in behavior management, SEL, and restorative practices
- Excellent facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to remain calm, consistent, and solutions-oriented in high-pressure situations
Work Environment:Fast-paced school setting requires frequent movement, high visibility, and active engagement with students throughout the school day.
