Director of Business Development – Preconstruction
Northwest Woodworks is one of the Pacific Northwest's premier architectural millwork and casework contractors. We partner with the region's leading general contractors to deliver exceptional craftsmanship on class-A commercial office, healthcare, higher education, hospitality, life sciences, civic, and other complex projects.
We're looking for an experienced Director of Business Development – Preconstruction to expand relationships with general contractors, identify opportunities early in the project lifecycle, and help us win the right work.
This is a highly visible leadership role with significant earnings potential for someone who thrives on building relationships, influencing strategy, and driving profitable growth.
What You'll Do
You will be responsible for developing and executing the business development strategy for the Puget Sound and greater Pacific NW market while strengthening relationships with existing customers and expanding our presence with new clients.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans for the Puget Sound market including strategic account plans for key customers.
- Lead project pursuits from concept through contract award.
- Build relationships with General Contractors, Owners, Architects, and Developers that drive negotiated and "last look" opportunities.
- Identify projects during conceptual design and preconstruction phases.
- Collaborate closely with estimating, engineering, and operations to position NWWI for success.
- Manage opportunities through our CRM from lead generation through project award.
- Represent Northwest Woodworks at industry events, association meetings, and networking functions.
- Provide market intelligence and competitive insights to leadership.
- Travel periodically throughout the Pacific Northwest.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has established relationships within the commercial construction industry and understands how projects are won.
Preferred qualifications include:
- 7+ years of business development experience in commercial construction with a focus on interior remodels and build outs.
- Established relationships with General Contractors in the Seattle/Puget Sound market.
- Experience selling architectural millwork, specialty subcontracting, interiors, commercial construction services, or related building products.
- Strong understanding of preconstruction, estimating, and project delivery.
- Demonstrated success exceeding sales and business development objectives.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational skills with disciplined CRM usage.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for winning.
Experience with architectural millwork or casework is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong commercial construction relationships and the ability to quickly learn our business are encouraged to apply.

Within your first year you will:
- Contribute directly to profitable revenue growth.
- Expand relationships with targeted General Contractors.
- Build a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities.
- Improve backlog visibility and predictability.
- Increase the percentage of negotiated, repeat business with strategic customers.
Target Compensation
- Base Salary: $150,000–$160,000
- Uncapped Performance Incentive
- Additional business profit performance incentive
- Target On-Target Earnings (OTE): $300,000+
- Vehicle Allowance: $875/month
