What to Expect
The NPI Technician is primarily responsible for ensuring the successful launch of the newest Energy products and sub-components, turning new engineering design to mass production. This person is expected to be able to execute against provided manufacturing instructions (if available), validate their own work, check the quality of previous operations, mentor production associates, lead builds in defined area, and meet schedules. The NPI Technician is expected to be able to provide feedback, define standard work, and suggest process improvements. Experience with hand tools and use of semi-automated manufacturing equipment is necessary.
This role will be based out of the Greater Houston Area (TX) however will be expected to work in Palo Alto/Lathrop (CA) to support prototype builds and validation for the first 1-2 months. Other travel may be required. Travel plans and reimbursement will follow Tesla’s Travel Policy and will be governed by the direct manager.
What You'll Do
The NPI Engineering Technician will be responsible for preparing materials and tools for performing NPI builds, trialing new materials and maintaining the various NPI core functions to a high standard
Document and verbally provide constructive feedback, define/iterate/document standard work, and suggest process improvements
Execute efficiently against provided instructions, self-validate work for accuracy, check the quality of previous operations, and meet critical deadlines
Support field investigations, instrumented/non-Plan of Record builds, and unique projects in support of our cross-functional teams
Hands-on product build validation, collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure factory and line readiness as well as ensuring critical timelines are met through effective execution of key milestones
Support operations and projects on the production line as necessary
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electronics, Mechanical, or equivalent industrial/manufacturing experience
Previous electrical trades experience working with power/hand tools, electrical equipment, isolation meters and multimeters
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematic
Skilled in troubleshooting and reworking electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; experience in thermal system or liquid cooling technologies preferred
Hands-on experience with interpreting instrumentation maps and installing sensors to support product testing and validation
Must have a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail, while working in an environment that requires quick action
Communicates test results, ideas, and problems to supervisor and engineers; able to be part of the solution
