KDR Wood Design Co. is a family-owned custom cabinet and millwork shop in Green Lake, Wisconsin. We design and build high-end custom cabinetry and architectural millwork for residential and commercial projects throughout the region.
We're looking for an experienced Cabinet Finisher/Painter who is passionate about quality craftsmanship and takes pride in producing exceptional finishes. Responsibilities
- Sand and prepare cabinetry, doors, drawer fronts, trim, and millwork for finishing.
- Apply stains, sealers, primers, paints, and clear topcoats—including conversion varnish—using professional spray equipment.
- Mix and match stains and paints to achieve consistent color and sheen.
- Inspect finished products for defects and perform touch-ups as needed.
- Maintain exceptional quality standards throughout every stage of the finishing process.
- Clean and maintain spray guns, pumps, spray booth equipment, and finishing tools.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of stains, paints, catalysts, solvents, and finishing supplies.
- Follow all safety procedures related to finishing materials and equipment.
- Work closely with the production team to ensure projects stay on schedule.
- Assist with loading finished cabinetry while protecting completed surfaces from damage.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient finishing department.
Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of professional cabinet or woodworking finishing experience.
- Experience spraying conversion varnish, lacquer, polyurethane, waterborne coatings, and stains.
- Experience operating HVLP and air-assisted airless spray systems.
- Ability to identify and correct finish imperfections before delivery.
- Knowledge of wood species, grain characteristics, and stain behavior.
- Ability to read shop drawings and production paperwork.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing premium-quality work.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a custom cabinet or architectural millwork shop.
- Experience color matching stains and paints.
- Experience finishing specialty woods, including walnut, white oak, hickory, maple, and cherry.
- Knowledge of finishing room maintenance and quality control procedures.
