Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Psychology or a closely related discipline with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Psychology.
- Previous college-level teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction and student engagement.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience utilizing learning management systems and instructional technology preferred.
- Commitment to student success, academic integrity, and excellence in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching General Psychology (PSY 201) at the collegiate level.
- Community college, university, or allied health education experience.
- Experience preparing students for careers in healthcare or human services.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards and higher education best practices.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty across interdisciplinary healthcare programs.
Position Summary
Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute (SEHWI) is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Psychology Instructor to teach General Psychology (PSY 201) as part of the Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (AADMS) Program. This position will also support future associate degree and allied health academic offerings as the institution expands its degree-granting initiatives.
The Psychology Instructor will provide engaging instruction that introduces students to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes while helping them develop critical thinking, effective communication, cultural awareness, and an understanding of psychological principles applicable to healthcare environments.
The instructor will maintain compliance with institutional policies, South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (SC CHE) requirements, Council on Occupational Education (COE) standards, and future programmatic accreditation expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach General Psychology (PSY 201) utilizing the approved institutional syllabus.
- Deliver engaging, evidence-based classroom instruction that promotes academic excellence and student success.
- Develop lessons emphasizing:
- Foundations of psychology
- Human behavior
- Cognitive processes
- Learning theories
- Personality development
- Human growth and development
- Mental health awareness
- Social psychology
- Psychological research methods
- Psychology within healthcare professions
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records.
- Evaluate student learning through examinations, written assignments, presentations, research projects, and classroom participation.
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students.
- Maintain scheduled office hours and provide academic support to promote student success.
- Participate in curriculum review, assessment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with allied health faculty to incorporate psychological concepts relevant to patient care and healthcare communication.
- Submit grades and required academic documentation within institutional deadlines.
- Participate in faculty meetings, institutional professional development, and accreditation activities as requested.
- Maintain compliance with all institutional academic policies.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and professional learning environment.
Instructional Responsibilities
The Psychology Instructor will be expected to:
- Prepare organized weekly lesson plans.
- Maintain course materials within the institutional Learning Management System (LMS).
- Grade assignments and examinations promptly.
- Monitor student academic progress and communicate concerns proactively.
- Encourage critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and evidence-based reasoning.
- Integrate technology and interactive learning strategies into classroom instruction.
- Support institutional retention and student success initiatives.
- Maintain regular communication with the Program Director and Administration.
