Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10.
- Review medical records and documentation to verify proper coding for diagnoses and procedures, including DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) assignments.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly, utilizing effective medical collection strategies to maximize reimbursements.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure correct application of medical terminology and coding guidelines.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, claim status updates, and payment histories for audit purposes.
- Stay current with evolving regulations related to medical coding, billing practices, and insurance policies to ensure compliance.
- Assist in resolving patient billing inquiries with professionalism and clear communication.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG classifications, and ICD coding standards.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and record management.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology and medical records management.
