Department Summary
The Radiation Safety Technician (RST) performa a variety of specialized tests in the Laboratory & Radiation Safety Laboratory as mandated by Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Protection regulations and the Ohio University Broad Scope License. The RST must also conduct a variety of tests on radioactive materials in use in research laboratories across the campus. All packages containing radioactive materials are received, processed, tracked, and delivered to users across the campus. Other instrumentation must be calibrated and maintained in the Laboratory and Radiation Safety Laboratory. Film badge inventories and issuance are also the Technician’s responsibility.

Position Profile
Reduces the risk of exposure to radiation and radioactive materials and ensures compliance with university, state, and federal regulations. Advises on radiation exposure and ensures that the University operates in a safe and secure environment.
Level Summary
Provides professional expertise to the University community. Serves as a resource and guide to others in the department and/or university. Completes operational tasks essential for the daily functioning of the University. Additionally, contributes to larger projects or initiatives that align with department or University goals, often collaborating across teams.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May assist in mentoring or training new employees.
Fiscal Responsibilities
No budgetary responsibility. May be responsible for validating transactions.

Handles a variety of problems with some independence.

Some supervision; able to work independently on routine tasks.

Collaborates with team members and shares knowledge.
Physical Requirements
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3-5 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.

Pay Rate
The proposed salary range for this position is $43,888 to $51,377. The salary negotiated at the time of offer will be commensurate with education and experience while also considering internal equity.
