MARRS Services, Inc. is a civil engineering and construction management firm supporting critical water, wastewater, and civil infrastructure programs.
We are seeking an experienced Lead Welding / Construction Inspector to support a major water infrastructure program on behalf of a Southern California public utility agency. The selected candidate will serve as Lead Inspector on a complex, large-scale mechanical and piping construction project at a water treatment facility in the Carson, CA area.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Lead Inspector on large, complex public works construction projects involving mechanical, welding, piping, millwright, and related work.
- Conduct field inspections of construction work in progress, ensuring compliance with contract specifications, drawings, and applicable codes (AWS D1.1, ASME Section VIII, etc.).
- Coordinate inspections across multiple trades and with other construction contractors, client representatives, and operations staff.
- Perform and interpret field and shop tests; take samples and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
- Perform functional testing on mechanical and electrical equipment and piping systems.
- Interpret drawings and plans; draw necessary detailed sketches as required.
- Keep thorough and accurate records including crew composition, equipment make/model, and materials used.
- Produce detailed daily inspection reports (IDRs) using client-approved standard forms.
- Photograph and video construction work in progress; maintain organized project photo and video records.
- Enforce compliance with contract specifications and quality control requirements.
- Coordinate with other inspectors, trades, and facility operations; communicate effectively with contractor representatives and project staff.
- Perform related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in a craft or general construction position at the journeyman level.
- 6 years of construction inspection experience, including at least 2 years in a Lead Inspector role.
- Demonstrated experience acting as Lead Inspector on large, complex public works construction projects.
- Broad general knowledge of construction work disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, pipefitting, welding, millwright, and piping.
- Familiarity with construction means and methods and quality control practices.
- Ability to read and comprehend contract specifications, detailed drawings, engineering plans, and construction blueprints.
- Ability to physically perform inspection duties: climb, crawl, squat, kneel, reach and/or twist body, work in cramped quarters or confined spaces, and lift objects up to 35 pounds.
- Strong oral and interpersonal skills for communicating with contractor representatives, client staff, and fellow inspectors.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification — preferred for mechanical, welding, and piping inspection assignments.
- ACI Grade 1 certification — preferred for civil and structural inspection assignments.
- Experience on water or wastewater treatment plant construction projects.
- Familiarity with Metropolitan Water District (MWD) or similar public utility agency inspection standards and reporting procedures.
- Experience with confined space entry, industrial safety protocols, and OSHA requirements.

Pay: $75.00 - $85.00 per hour
