Position: Registered Nurse – Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate Registered Nurse to join our plastic and reconstructive surgery practice. This position provides perioperative and postoperative nursing care for cosmetic and reconstructive patients, with an emphasis on breast reconstruction, breast reductions, abdominoplasty, augmentation, and blepharoplasty, postoperative wound/drain management, patient education, and coordination of care.
Key Responsibilities
Preoperative & Consultation Care
- Obtain and document patient histories, medications, allergies, vital signs, height, and weight.
- Assist with preoperative health assessments and surgical planning.
- Obtain and document preoperative photographs and ensure appropriate photo consent is present.
- Provide preoperative education regarding medications, activity restrictions, drains, wound care, and postoperative expectations.
- Coordinate appropriate referrals and preoperative requirements for reconstructive patients.
Postoperative Patient Care
- Provide postoperative assessments at scheduled intervals following cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.
- Perform postoperative wound care and dressing changes.
- Identify postoperative concerns and communicate appropriately with the surgeon.
- Coordinate additional postoperative visits when indicated.
In-Office Procedures & Surgical Support
- Prepare procedure rooms according to established surgical protocols.
- Assist with in-office procedures and maintain a safe, clean, appropriately stocked clinical environment.
- Prepare supplies, instruments, medications, dressings, and equipment according to procedure requirements.
- Assist with postoperative recovery and patient discharge instructions.
- Follow infection-control and sterile-processing protocols.
Sterilization & Equipment
- Operate and maintain the practice's autoclave/sterilization equipment according to established protocols.
- Prepare, package, sterilize, and store surgical instruments and supplies.
- Perform required routine equipment maintenance and biological monitoring.
- Maintain appropriate sterilization documentation.
Surgical & Implant Coordination
- Coordinate supplies and equipment needed for hospital-based cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.
- Assist with implant and sizer ordering and tracking.
- Coordinate delivery and return of surgical supplies and implants as appropriate.
- Maintain required implant/device tracking documentation.
- Assist with warranty-related implant documentation and returns when applicable.
General Clinical Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation.
- Obtain and maintain postoperative photographs and appropriate consents.
- Communicate with patients by phone regarding preoperative and postoperative questions.
- Coordinate with physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, physical therapists, vendors, and device manufacturers.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable clinical regulations.
- Monitor inventory and assist with maintaining adequate clinical supplies.
- Participate in maintaining a safe, organized, and professional clinical environment.
Required:
- Current, unrestricted RN license in Washington State.
- Strong clinical assessment and patient-education skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Pay: $37.00 - $47.00 per hour
