POSITION: Childcare Site Director (Before & After School Childcare)

SALARY: $22.20 - $24.00/hour
HOURS: Part Time .75 FTE - 30 to 39 Hours Weekly (split shift, hours between 7:00am-6:00pm) - School Year Position
LOCATION: Larchmont Elementary - 8601 E. B Street, Tacoma, WA 98445, Reed Elementary - 1802 S. 36th St., Tacoma, WA 98418, Stafford Elementary - 1615 S. 92nd St., Tacoma, WA 98444
Please note - we are hiring one Childcare Site Director for each location shared above.
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound (BGCSPS) is a non-profit organization that CHANGES LIVES through quality programs and guidance in a safe, affordable, and fun environment. BGCSPS’s mission is to inspire all young people, especially those who need us most, empowering them to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible members of their community. We have been providing a safe, fun, and positive environment at our sites with trained and dedicated professional staff for more than 80 years.
Members are involved in age-appropriate activities based upon our three priority outcomes of Academic Success, Character Development, and Healthy Lifestyles.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Childcare Site Director is responsible for delivering and overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs within a designated before and after school childcare site. Supervise and support program staff, interface with volunteers assigned to specific programs to ensure proper application, and promote safety of members, quality of programs, and appearance of the site at all times. Core Program development includes but is not limited to Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness, and Recreation.
FUNCTION/TASKS
LICENSING
● Follow staffing and facility compliance within BGCSPS and DCYF guidelines.
● Participate in mandatory training including but not limited to: Blood Borne Pathogens, STARS Child Care Basics, CPR/First Aid, MERIT Background Check, TB Test, Food Handlers Card, and copies of the following documents: MMR Vaccine, and official transcript for highest level of education.
PREPARE YOUTH FOR SUCCESS
● Plan, deliver, and oversee designated childcare programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes
● Establish Club program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
● Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
● Create an environment where members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
● Demonstrate skills & provide leadership to assure conduct, safety & development of members.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION
● Lead or assist K-5 youth in Childcare programs at designated TPS/BGCSPS locations: Larchmont Elementary, Reed Elementary, and Stafford Elementary.
● Establish and maintain program goals and settings that maximize the health and safety of members. Make sure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards; ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and that Club equipment is maintained in good working condition.
● Evaluate the effectiveness of programs on a continual basis and that programs and activities respond to member needs.
● Control program and activity expenditures within the approved budget in collaboration with the Regional Manager.
● Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
● Interact professionally with other employees, customers, TPS staff, and program partners.
● Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
SUPERVISION
● Allocate and monitor work assigned, provide ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Complete performance evaluations on all Lead Teachers. Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
● Hire program staff within program guidelines in collaboration with Childcare Leadership.
● Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any incidents/accidents.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Establish & maintain supportive relationships with schools & others in the respective communities around sites. Visit schools to promote Club programs and membership.
● Participate in community engagement activities as assigned by Childcare Leadership.
● Meet with parents concerning member and site issues to include discipline in alignment with the Behavior Management Policy, as well as other identified needs or activities.
● Other duties as assigned related to this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Minimum of 21 years of age; possess a high school diploma or GED.
● Ability to meet childcare education requirements; minimum completion of 12 college credits in any 100-level or above college coursework or equivalent (WAC 110-301-0100).
● Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others.
● Regular and predictable attendance.
● Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
● Exceptional planning, organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills; able to manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, customer service skills, and experience answering phones in an office environment.
● Ability to effectively communicate with youth, parents, staff, volunteers and community partners while displaying tact, maturity and flexibility.
● Work ethic to be responsible, accountable, provide follow up, complete tasks, and meet deadlines in a professional manner with accuracy and attention to detail.
● Previous experience in licensed childcare settings is highly desired.
● Must pass a national criminal background check
● Driving
○ Must have a reliable personal vehicle for business related travel.
○ Valid WA State driver’s license with acceptable 3 year MVR - driving record.
○ Verification of Tier 1 Insurance standards.
○ Willingness to travel within a designated region for community partnership visits and business meetings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
To keep our staff safe we adhere to the CDC safety guidelines and remain in close communication with local health departments, program partners, and local School Districts to work together to serve our youth in the safest way we can.

High energy level; comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to get along with diverse personalities at all times displaying tact, maturity and flexibility; good reasoning abilities and sound judgment. Skills essential for successful communications include speaking and writing.
Physical requirements include sight, hearing, being active and on your feet for a minimum of four hours; adapt to changes in a highly energetic work environment; other duties as assigned. Environment of the position: both indoors and outdoors; possibility of adverse weather conditions; noise, dust, pollen and insects; including contact with the public. Possible contact with dissatisfied and/or abusive individuals.

● Paid Sick Leave - In accordance with Washington Paid Sick Leave, you will accrue one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. You are eligible to use Paid Sick Leave after 30 days of continuous employment.

● Paid Vacation - Accrues per pay period, totaling one week (30 hours) annually.
● Personal All In Day - One (1) personal All In day (6 hours) annually after 3 months of employment.
