The Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) is a division of Community Research Foundation (CRF) and is in partnership with San Diego County Health and Human Services, San Diego County Law Enforcement, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI San Diego).
PERT contributes to the well-being of individuals with mental illness by actively and compassionately assisting individuals in crisis who come to the attention of law enforcement to access appropriate services and to optimize outcomes through on-scene assessments and referrals.

Licensure: Must be a licensed in California as an RN, LMFT, LCSW, LPCC or Psychologist and must maintain licensure during employment

Qualifications/Skills Requirement

Must have a minimum of two years' experience in crisis management or providing resources to persons living with serious mental illness

Must have CPR/First Aid certification and must be maintained during employment

Must be able to pass background check and civilian-level Sheriff's Department screening
Works in a law enforcement-based setting assisting mentally ill consumers who come into contact with law enforcement. Provides direct client contact in the field, including assessments, crisis intervention, referrals to other agencies and services, and documentation and recordkeeping. Assists clients and their families in accessing mental health treatment, medical care, education and community and family resources as needed. Significant amounts of time are spent within police vehicles and work locations and shifts can vary and are assigned by the Director or Assistant Director to best serve the community and law enforcement.
