Core Responsibilities
- Preventative Maintenance: Schedule and execute routine maintenance tasks—such as lubricating bearings, replacing filters, and adjusting belts—to prevent unexpected equipment downtime. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose mechanical malfunctions through observation, testing metrics, and diagnostic instruments. Dismantle machines to remove and replace defective parts using hoists, cranes, and specialized hand/power tools. [1, 2]
- Equipment Installation: Assemble, install, and calibrate new machinery or mechanical systems according to manufacturer instructions and blueprints. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA and workplace safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. [1, 2, 3]
- Record Keeping: Maintain logs of completed service requests, parts inventory, and labor hours using work order or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). [1, 2]
- Facility Upkeep: Assist with general building maintenance as assigned, which may include light plumbing, electrical, or structural repairs. [1, 2]
Key Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED; completion of a vocational/technical training program or relevant trade apprenticeship is highly preferred.
- Experience: 1–5 years of hands-on experience repairing industrial, manufacturing, or commercial equipment.
- Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals. Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and bend or climb to access equipment in various positions.
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
