Liaise with the operators of fishing vessels and the Red’s Best operations teams that unload fishing vessels and process their harvests, ensuring proper and accurate communications, calculations, and data entry and maintenance in both internal and myriad regulatory systems. Ambassador of math and science as pertains to fisheries management and species biomass and the food supply that it yields. The hours are 6:30AM to 2:30PM Monday through Friday, fully in office.
This position is ultimately responsible for monitoring the pulse of, and helping manage the flow of catches/landings (procurement), with complete and timely regulatory compliance.
Core Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance & Permitting: Ensuring all fishing, harvesting, and processing activities adhere to federal (e.g., NOAA Fisheries), state, and international regulations. This includes managing vessel permits, catch reports and tags, and reporting requirements.
- Traceability & Reporting: Maintaining detailed documentation for all fish stocks affected and how; utilizing systems to record fisherman, vessel, origin, species, and gear, weights and measures, and prices.
- Operational Oversight: Coordinating with supply chain teams to optimize yields, monitor inventory, and ensure product quality.
-Logistics Support: Help coordinate the scheduling and dispatch of Red’s Best unloading teams to various ports to meet and serve vessels heading to land, including maintaining professional communication with boat captains and crew.
- Interagency Coordination: Acting as a liaison between the company and government agencies like NOAA Fisheries, state marine resources divisions, or regional fishery management councils.
- Procurement Auditing: Reconciling purchases from vendors, purchase orders, proofs of delivery, and invoices.
Required Skills & Education
Education: A bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Aquaculture, or Natural Resource Management may be ideal, but not required.
Experience: Previous experience recommended in commercial fishing, aquaculture, or regulatory (e.g. leave NOAA and come work in private sector).
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of fish stocks and related conservation and environmental regulations, or eagerness to learn the same. Strong mathematics orientation.
Administrative Skills: Strong proficiency in recordkeeping, data analysis, and regulatory documentation.
