JOB A Truck Driver in Street Sanitation operates one or more types of automotive equipment, including a packer-type truck and dump truck, other than heavy duty or specialized automotive equipment, in the performance of duties. Work consists of routine manual and simple mechanical operations of equipment. Incumbents are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the trucks and related equipment. S/he follows general directions, including work orders to determine work to be done and routes to be taken, from a superior who performs periodic inspections of work. Incumbents may be called upon to operate heavy duty equipment in case of emergency. Supervision may be exercised over Laborers in the loading and unloading of trucks. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Operates a truck in connection with the collecting, removing and/or transporting of recycling garbage, refuse, gravel, trees, branches, dirt, etc.;
Operates a truck with a plow or spreader in connection with removal of snow and spreading of salt to clear snow from streets with parked vehicles and other obstacles;
Performs minor maintenance work on trucks;
- checks oil and gas level, tire inflation and cleanliness of the truck;
- reports problems with equipment and documents same;
Assists in the loading and unloading of trucks;
Assists in setting up and maintaining of safety zones;
Wears safety equipment as required;
Maintains awareness of potential safety hazards while working;
