The purpose of this job is to plan, develop, and manage the CDL Program while also provide CDL/truck driver training from the classroom phase through the end of the driving phase while following all USDOT rules and regulations and fulfilling all recording and reporting requirements of the SCDMV and NCCER. Monitoring student progress and working closely with students in areas where they many need concentrated training will ensure more competent entry-level drivers and ensure a good passing rate. Implement and teach other training programs related to the trucking industries that may be needed by companies or individuals.
Job Functions:

Plan, develop, and manage curriculum and delivery of the CDL Program.

Teach the hands-on portion of all types of courses in the truck driver training program by following the established course outline for each course as well as following all USDOT and SCDMV rules and regulations. Teach the hands-on portion of all types of courses in the heavy equipment operator training program by following the established course outline for each course as well as following all NCCER rules and regulations.

Inspect and maintain the safety of the training equipment, including making repairs that have been approved by the program manager. Establish and maintain a good rapport with the SCDMV for acquiring CDL road test appointments, and, when necessary, administer CDL road test appointments as a licensed Safety Officer/Third Party Tester for the State of South Carolina.

Provide direct student and program support to include: recruiting, counseling, and informing potential students about the truck driver and heavy equipment operator training programs and the job requirements and duties of a commercial truck driver and a heavy equipment operator; advising students about current job opportunities and counseling them on how to contact employers, fill out applications, and prepare other documents when applying for a job; and communicating with industry recruiters to set presentation appointments as well as listening to these presentations on a regular basis to be better able to advise students about the company. Develop, revise, and update, as necessary, all truck driving and heavy equipment courses that are currently being taught in addition to any new courses that are requested by the trucking and heavy equipment operator industries.
