Coe College seeks qualified candidates for the position of Electrician in our Physical Plant Department. This role, under limited supervision, will apply knowledge and skills of a journey person in the installation, service and repair on a variety of electrical equipment. Will assist in the planning and implementation of the College's maintenance and remodeling projects. Will perform related work as required.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance on all electrical devices as needed within limitations, not to exceed 480 volts.
- Troubleshoot and repair all electrical and electronic controlled devices using testing equipment such as a volt ohm meter, ammeter, voltmeters, multimeter, etc.
- Complete work orders as assigned in timely manner
- Maintain records and submit reports on designated equipment.
- Perform duties as assigned on the Emergency Response and Control team.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
- Direct the work of any person assigned to assist.
- Cooperate with outside contractors.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings. Keep track of any changes and/or modifications to same, and report them to the Director of the Physical Plant.
- Cover for plumber and HVAC technician in their absences.
- For those who have College service vehicles assigned to them. they must maintain a regular maintenance check of the fluid level and keep the vehicle clean (inside and out). Must also track any routine maintenance needs for the vehicle.
- Will maintain an orderly and clean work shop space
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalency.
- Must have Journeyman Class B Electrical license.
- Experience with residential and commercial settings preferred.
- Must be able to read and interpret mechanical, electrical and structural prints and schematics.
- Must have a valid Iowa Driver's License.
- Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States as we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
- Successful completion of a background and driver check in accordance with Coe College policy.

- Must be able lift 50+lbs occasionally and/or as needed.
- May involve exposure to chemical substances, hazards and moving parts.
- Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather, noise air pollution and heights.
- Work schedule is subject to change in accordance with College needs.
- Call ins may be mandatory based on College need.
