The Marketing Lead is responsible for overseeing the DNA Doe Project’s public voice across all communication channels and our website. This role manages social media, content creation, and community engagement to increase awareness, support fundraising efforts, and share the impactful work of identifying Does and reuniting families with answers.
This position requires excellent storytelling, sensitivity to victim-centered communication, and the ability to create clear, compelling public messaging.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media & Community Engagement (40%)
- Supporting a social media strategy across platforms (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn).
- Create and publish posts that highlight case updates, organizational news, educational content, volunteer spotlights and other in partnership with the Director of Media and Communications.
- Uphold ethical standards in sharing sensitive information related to unidentified individuals and active investigations.
Content Creation & Storytelling (45%)
- Work with leadership to translate complex data into accessible public messaging.
- Maintain brand consistency, voice, and visual identity across all channels.
- Create and distribute newsletter to donors, partners, and other supporters.
- Contribute to website updates and digital resources.
Fundraising Support (15%)
- Collaborate with development teams to support fundraising campaigns and donor appeals.
- Promote events, campaigns, and volunteer recruitment initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years experience in marketing, communications, digital media, journalism, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience managing organizational social media accounts.
- Strong understanding of brand voice and visual communication.
- High emotional intelligence and sensitivity when handling victim-centered stories.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment.
Preferred
- Prior experience in crisis communication or sensitive-case media handling.
- Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.).
- Familiarity with content analytics tools and SEO best practices.
- Experience of utilizing marketing to support development efforts

This role is offered as at-will employment under California law. The position is funded primarily through grants and donations, and continued employment depends on the availability of funding. The role is fully remote, with the organization headquartered in California, and all employment terms comply with applicable state and federal laws.
