Overview

Duties
- Schedule outpatient procedures and diagnostic tests for gastroenterology patients using electronic scheduling systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance verification, and facilitate pre-authorizations for procedures
- Review patient documentation, medical histories, and care plans to ensure accurate scheduling and billing compliance
- Coordinate with physicians, nursing staff, and external facilities to confirm appointment times and prepare necessary documentation
- Manage patient records within EHR systems like eClinicalWorks or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide excellent patient service by answering multi-line phone systems, addressing scheduling inquiries, and offering clear instructions for upcoming procedures
- Maintain filing systems for medical records, test results, and billing information while ensuring compliance with health information management standards
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards, and medical billing practices
- Experience with insurance verification processes including Medicare and other third-party payers
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and specialized dental or medical office management software like Eaglesoft or Dentrix
- Exceptional phone etiquette and customer service skills to handle patient inquiries professionally
- Ability to review documentation thoroughly and ensure accuracy in scheduling and billing procedures
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively serve diverse patient populations
- Prior clinic experience in a healthcare setting with familiarity in front desk operations and medical administrative support
