SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision of the Cognitive Behavioral Coordinator, assists in the implementation of cognitive behavioral services including, but not limited to, facilitating teachback sessions, cognitive behavioral interventions, facilitating floor activities, and practicing cognitive behavioral tools. This position is responsible for day-to-day floor operations, facilitation of group sessions, de-escalation of residents, utilization of cognitive behavioral interventions, and monitoring resident behavior. The Cognitive Behavioral Facilitator is expected to participate in activities which foster a safe and secure environment that is conducive to the goals and mission of the West Central Community Correctional Facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. ADMINISTRATIVE
· Assists the Cognitive Behavioral Coordinator in an on-going analysis and development of floor activities and cognitive behavioral interventions
· Participates in supervisor, team/section, and all-staff meetings as scheduled;
· Assures that facility policies & procedures are established and maintained in accordance with all applicable governing boards and federal, state & local authority;
· Collects, prepares, and submits timely monthly, quarterly, annual reports as directed.
2. COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL FUNCTION- Primary Function
· Plans, develops, coordinates and facilitates treatment service to include teachback sessions, workshops, team activities, and practice of cognitive behavioral interventions.
· Each employee understands his/her role in using cognitive behavioral interventions and develops the necessary competencies to successfully function in the program;
· Be aware of resident treatment/rehabilitation plans and needs, and assist the resident in the completion of their treatment goals;
· Provides an ongoing assessment of resident strengths and needs and reports them to treatment team
· Assists residents in the practice of skills they have learned with the program department
· Facilitates multiple cognitive behavior treatment groups and advanced practice groups.
· Practices cognitive behavioral tools with residents individually
· Reviews resident reports and/or requests;
· Ensures all assigned staff maintains strict confidentiality with respect to information obtained and processed in the operation of the facility;
· Documents group notes for all sessions facilitated
· Utilize appropriate techniques to de-escalate residents
3. FACILITY OPERATIONS- Secondary Function as needed
· Creates and maintains a working environment for effective communication among staff;
· Monitors residents and ensures that all operational policies and procedures are followed;
· Supplements facility coverage as needed for operational safety and security;
· Monitor resident behaviors and utilize corrective actions and stepping stones in response to witnessed behavior
· Utilizes audio-visual and computer equipment appropriately, on an as needed basis.
· Maintain an environment that is conducive to our agency philosophy and humane living conditions;
· Enforces Residential Program Rules and Regulations in a firm, fair and consistent manner; and follows appropriate reporting procedures for violations;
· Responds to resident needs and conflicts in a preventative fashion so as to reduce volatile situations;
· Assures resident movement follows facility procedures; monitors residents entering and leaving program by following the established sign-in and sign-out procedures;
· Responsible for handling crisis and emergency situations in program, calling for assistance when needed, and documenting all such incidents per agency policy;
· Conducts visual head counts, isolation checks, facility shakedowns, and resident searches according to approved policies/procedures;
· Monitors, identifies, and documents all individuals (i.e., visitors, outside agency personnel, officials, etc.) entering and leaving the West Central Community Correctional Facility;
· Supervises, directs, and evaluates the completion of resident housekeeping assignments within areas of responsibility. Ensures necessary cleaning supplies are available and utilized properly;
· Remains alert throughout work shift and maintains contact with personnel on duty to be aware of unusual situations that may arise and/or problems that need to be resolved;
· Maintains close and continual coordination with the staff of all functional areas ensuring smooth facility operations, and that residents receive proper and timely services;
· Ensures that the facility and its premises are kept free of health, fire, and safety hazards; ensures that all grounds, walkways, driveways, and parking areas are in good repair and well-lighted for a safe and secure perimeter;
· Ensures compliance with facility policies and procedures with regard to the use and storing of all sharp instruments, tools, toxic, corrosive, flammable substances, and other potentially dangerous supplies and equipment;
· Properly notifies supervisor and maintains logs and reports of events, situations, and incidents which occur during the daily operations and programs of the facility;
· Supervises facility access and key control per procedure;
· Monitors, and documents procedures for the conduct of monthly fire drills, tornado drills, and other emergency situations as required;
· Supervises, and documents daily, weekly, and monthly inspections in and around the facility to ensure the facility is clean, orderly, and in good repair;
· Supervises resident during recreation, visitation, commissary, transportation, and other activities as required;
· Follows procedure regarding the maintenance of transportation resources;
· Coordinates, conducts, and documents control inventories;
· Supervises the maintenance of good order and discipline within the facility by following procedures and completing accurate timely documentation;
· Responds in person, when required, to any problems and/or emergencies at the facility in a timely manner, regardless of hour; may have to work overtime;
· Provides oversight of resident crews.
4. PROGRAM EVALUATION
· Participates in continuous quality improvement activities relevant to evidence based practices
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
· Interpersonal communication skills required to engage and sustain working relationships with residents, staff, and community resources
· Associate Degree in related field or equivalent work experience
· Knowledge and understanding of cognitive behavioral interventions and evidence based practices
· Knowledge of, and ability to implement, problem-solving principles and counseling techniques appropriate to a correctional environment;
· Ability to read and prepare reports, mastery of written communication;
· Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required;
· Ability to facilitate groups;
· Ability to de-escalate residents and utilize crisis intervention techniques
· Skill in the use of personal computers and related office software;
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Potential exists for exposure to disease/illness;
· This is a minimum-security facility; therefore all outside access doors are locked at all times.
