Job Description Summary:

Procures service and serves as an advocate on behalf of patients, families and the hospital for scarce resources throughout the continuum of care. Facilitates and provides necessary patient and family education.

Demonstrates advanced knowledge of groin management on all 4 modalities in the cardiovascular lab: A) Interventional Cardiology B) Interventional Radiology C) Interventional Neuro radiology D) Interventional Electrophysiology

Interviews patients and completes a full comprehensive medical history and physical examination.

Identifies areas needing improvement in groin management and identifies medication orders post interventions. Actively participates in department's performance and improvement program. Provides feedback to unit director on an ongoing basis, i.e. concern, improvements, changes, etc.

Reviews and ensures post interventional anticoagulation medication orders are placed and given during the patients stay in the hospital.

Monitors post procedure incision site (groin, radial, popliteal) for bleed or hematoma during the patients stay in the hospital.

Monitor component that may lead to bleeding complications (loss of pulse, hypertension BP, drop in H/H, platelets and evaluate patient alertness AAAx3)

Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests (U/S and CT and lab work) to rule out complications. Reports results to interventionalists for further evaluation.

Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic medications (ASA and anti-platelets) if required and notifies interventionalists.

Secures on patient discharge that anti-platelets prescription is filled by our pharmacy or called in for pick up on outside pharmacy.

Attends and actively participates in departmental meetings to educate our receiving floors, in-service programs, provides positive suggestions and input.

Monitors and collects monthly complication report on patients that have received: A) More than 2 units of transfused blood, Develop: B) Pseudoaneurysm C) Av fistula D) Retroperitoneal bleed E) Hematoma, Treated: F) Thrombin Injection G) US Guide Compression H) Covert Stent Placement I) Surgery. All complications to be discussed and reviewed with medical director and panel to address an action plan for future prevention.

Report access site complications on all modalities in CVL to Performance Improvement (PI) on a quarterly basis.

Promotes surveillance, prevention, and control of infection by using and teaching hygienic practices.

State of Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License; ACLS Certification; CPR certification required.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Master of Science in Nursing.
