As an Owner Operator, you will leverage your expertise in commercial trucking to independently manage freight transportation, ensuring timely deliveries while adhering to safety and regulatory standards. This role offers the opportunity to operate a variety of specialized trailers, including refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, and roll-off trucks, providing flexibility and variety in your driving experience. Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers across over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Manage the loading and unloading of freight, including logistics cargo handling, using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment such as forklifts when necessary.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, optimizing delivery schedules while adhering to route driving protocols.
- Transport a variety of cargo types, including hazardous materials (hazmat), dangerous goods, refrigerated items, flatbed loads, tankers, and other specialized freight.
- Load and secure cargo properly for safe transport; perform routine inspections of trailers such as refrigerated trailers or flatbeds before departure.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, pickups, hours of service logs, and compliance documentation in accordance with FMCSA and hazardous materials regulations.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery status, or any issues encountered during transit.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on tractor-trailer operations.
- Demonstrated ability to handle various trailer types including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and other specialty equipment.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation tools and route planning for efficient delivery execution.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance standards, hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat), and safety protocols for dangerous goods transportation.
- Experience with truck loading/unloading procedures and logistics cargo handling techniques.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the cargo types transported; experience with manual transmission preferred.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely and effectively; forklift certification is a plus for loading/unloading activities.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures related to hazardous materials and general trucking operations.
